Travel & Tourism at Immanuel College

Course description

The Travel and Tourism industry is one of the biggest employers in the UK, and one of the biggest earning sectors of the national economy.Employment in the sector includes hotels and attractions, travel agencies and travel companies, and a whole host more, both in this country and overseas.

Course content

Students at Immanuel study for the BTEC National Award in Travel and Tourism, a qualification equivalent to one A-Level in points for university entrance. Assessment is entirely by coursework which is completed over the first five terms of post-16 study.The course is designed to provide an introduction to the requirements of work in the sector, but is also valuable as preparation for the requirements of modern methods of university study.   The course is divided into six units, with four core units introducing the student to the Tourism Business, exploring Customer Service, and looking at the UK as a tourist destination.In the two optional units we will look at overseas tourist destinations.  

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSE grades C or above, or the equivalent in BTEC First Awards at Merit or Distinction.  

Future opportunities

Travel & Tourism is accepted for a wide range of university courses and careers, and the BTEC is held in the same regard as the GCE by the universities that we have spoken to.
