Bridging the Gap - Independent Living Skills at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Course description

The course is aimed at learners who have been referred from an alternative education centre. The course is for learners who want to progress to mainstream opportunities. This course will give learners the skills to gain confidence and to be more independent.

You will study AIM Awards at Entry Level 3 / Level 1 Extended Certificate in Skills for Employment and Further Learning. Included in the Extended Certificate are units studying Basic skills, Personal and Social Education and Careers.

This course is designed to develop the learners’ life and work skills. The qualification units will incorporate number, communication, personal and social development.

In term 3, where progression to mainstream has been identified, then appropriate tasters will be arranged.

Course content

Learners will attend classes in small groups (maximum of 7) with a tutor and Learning Support Assistants (LSA). Each learner will have an individual learning plan (ILP) and weekly tutorials. Within the course the learners will find out about real life.

Entry requirements

Applicants will need to be working at Entry Level 3 in Literacy and Numeracy, and attend a successful interview or taster course to make sure the course is right for them.

All places are subject to satisfactory interview.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used, including observation. Assessments will be completed in class time.

Future opportunities

At the end of Bridging The Gap, there is progression to either:

  • Entry 3 / Level 1 Mainstream provision. 
  • Step Up To Work. 
  • Bridge the Gap to Further Education. 
  • Or other training opportunities if appropriate.
