Computer Science AS/A level at Rosedale College

Course description

The course is for students who wish to progress into a career into software development, programming or computer gaming and enjoy finding imaginative solutions to complex problems. More generally, the course will equip you with the skills necessary to adapt to the frequent changes in the world of computing and with the knowledge of engineering solutions to real-world problems.

Course content

The course will explore and develop the following topics of interest: AS LEVEL COMPUTER SCIENCE Computing Principles: Algorithms and problem solving A LEVEL COMPUTER SCIENCE : Advanced Computing Theory Computing Project Through coursework, you will gain an understanding of definition, investigation and analysis, system design, software development and testing, documentation, evaluation and how to produce written reports covering these topics.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved a minimum of 5 A C grades or the equivalent at GCSE, including a grade B in GCSE Mathematics and a grade C in GCSE English.

Assessment

AS LEVEL COMPUTING Two written examinations A LEVEL COMPUTING Two written examinations - One coursework practical project.

Future opportunities

After studying computing you will gain a number of transferable skills, which can be used in many different occupations. Some of these include programming, software engineering, software development or any type of science.
