GCSE: Chemistry at Ashby School
This course is known as Triple Science and carries a single award. It is usually studied with GCSE Biology and Physics so that, after two years of study, students achieve three GCSE qualifications. Topics covered include rocks and buildings, rocks and metals, crude oil and its uses, rates of reactions, structure of substances, the periodic table, acids and alkalis, identifying and analysing substances, and chemical reaction energy.
Students can take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Science and specialise further in Chemistry. Some students may need to strengthen their grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, students may choose a career related to science and Chemistry such as a Science Teacher, Pharmacist or Chemical Scientist. It is also possible to go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of an employer.
