Music Technology and Performance BTEC Level 2 at Nova Centric Limited

Course description

Learn all the skills necessary to record, mix and master music in professional studios. On our Music Technology course you will also manage and engineer a live, large-scale music event. From exploring compositions and creating film soundtracks to working with musicians and industry professionals, this course gives you an access-all-areas pass to the mechanics of studio recording, production and live engineering.

Course content

Term 1 - Introduction to the Music Industry

You’ll learn all about the music industry, including a wide variety of job roles available, and different organisations. You will also begin to develop solo and group rehearsal and performance practices, as well as learning to operate sequencing software to create your own music. Alongside this, you will also develop your research and writing skills in order to write an article on a chosen music topic.

Term 2 - The Development of Music

During this term, you will explore how modern popular music has developed by exploring its rich history and background. You will also learn to play a range of different historical styles, including Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Soul. Before Easter, you will take part in your public performance at a venue in Nottingham city centre.

Term 3 - Composition

Using the techniques that you have built up through the year, you will plan, organise and perform an end of year showcase. You will also produce your own compositions and songs to share your achievements with friends, family, fans, and invited industry guests.

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs grade 9-3 (A*-D) including English and maths
  • An appreciation of and passion for the subject with a level of practical experience
  • A successful audition performing two different pieces
