Caring for Children CACHE Level 1 Certificate at Hertford Regional College
This qualification is designed to stimulate interest and encourage understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. It will help you develop life skills and provide an introduction if you are thinking of working in childcare.
There may be an opportunity to gain work experience in a child care related setting.
You will attend College three days each week 9.00am-5.00pm and have work to complete in your own time. You may spend one day each week and possibly some block weeks, in placement after Easter.
What will I be doing on the course?
You will study a range of child care related units and you will have the opportunity for personal development and career guidance.
Our placement coordinators organise appropriate student work placements. Shudents will need to be able to make the travel arrangements necessary for them to attend these.
- A minimum of 130 GCSE entry points including English and Maths or demonstrate literacy skills at Level 1 or Entry Level 3.
- A successful HRC Disclosure and Barring Service check. You must demonstrate suitability to work with children, show empathy and a keen interest in working with and helping others, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Applications are welcome from male and female students.
A range of Units for Childcare and Personal and Social Development (PSD) will be marked and assesssed by the Unit Tutors throughout the course. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include; written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.
Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2016. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2016, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last three years, and are a fee paying new entrant you will pay £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). However, fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). You will be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee, materials fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. For these costs please contact our Information Centre.
Although the qualification does not qualify you to work with children it does support you in preparing for the next steps, perhaps in training or moving towards the world of work:
- If successful you will gain a Level 1 qualification which may allow you to progress on to a course which will give you a qualification enabling you to apply to work in child care.
- Courses you may apply for are: Level 2 Award / Certificate / Diploma in Child Care and Education and BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2.
As part of your programme you will study Functional Skills at Level 1 or Level 2 in English and Maths. You can take part in additional activities such as charity fund raising, trips and visits. You may also undertake First Aid training.
What will I need?
Course fees (excluding tuition) for 2015-2016 were approximately £160.00 this amount includes some trips, a course text book, placement polo shirt, and Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.
Other costs are: Travel costs to placement and any additional books.
