Course description

Do you like seeing people enjoying themselves?

If so then the hospitality industry could be for you. Hospitality is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK, meaning there are lots of opportunities to build a career in this very diverse area of work. The sector includes hotels, restaurants, the events industry, bars, cafés and pubs as well as world renowned tourism attractions. Customer service is one of the most important aspects of a career in hospitality and good communication skills are vital.

Flexible working is often important in the hospitality industry as you will be typically work during evenings and weekends, due to demand.

 

Course content

Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships are avaliable depending on your age and current qualifications but also the industry you choose.

You will obtain an NVQ certificate or diploma and technical qualifications in your particular employment area and essential qualifications in Maths and English to support your ongoing development. You will be guided by your assessor who will work with you one-to-one throughout your apprenticeship.

What skills will I learn?

What you learn as an apprentice will depend on your role and the type of business, but this can include:

• Customer service

• Stock management

• Up-selling techniques

• Cooking skills and techniques

• Food Safety Law and Hygience

Entry requirements

A friendly, professional outlook is just as important as formal qualifications. Candidates would be expected to be able to use their own initiative, work on their own as well as part of team as well as having good attention to detail and communication.

Future opportunities

Hospitality apprenticeships are a great way of building a career in the industry and there are many opportunities including working as a waiter, in a bar, housekeeper, receptionist or chef.

There are often opportunities to progress quickly in the hospitality industry, working towards becoming a departmental head, duty manager, team leader or enter into management and make people’s leisure time a brilliant experience.
