IT - Level 2 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This offers students a practical approach to learning and developing the industry knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in the workplace.

It is equivalent to 4 GCSE`s and will provide you with the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 programme of study in IT or games development or progress to an apprenticeship/traineeship.

This programme provides a foundation to all aspects of computing with a strong bias towards practical study that mirrors how industry works. Modules include web development, computer hardware and software, computer games design, animation and IT support.

Course content

The Course will cover the following modules:

  • Communicating in the IT Industry
  • Working in the IT Industry
  • Website Development
  • IT Security
  • Setting up an IT Network
  • Developing Computer Games
  • Animation Techniques

Entry requirements

4 GCSE's Grades D-G including English & maths or a relevant level 1 qualification.


Assessment methods used may include :-
• Presentation 
• Demonstrations 
• Witness statements 
• Development of appropriate documentation or assessment reports. 

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you would be eligible to progress onto:

  • Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in IT
  • Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in IT (Games)
  • Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills

Alternatively you may progress onto an apprenticeship programme or into employment.


Throughout the course there will be the opportunity to have access to real working environments, hear from industry speakers, visit employers work places and take up work placements. These activities will assist in developing your skills further to improve your employment prospects within the IT industry.
