A Level Accounting at Ashton Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a very profitable course. You will gain the underlying skills and knowledge needed for professional accounting qualifications.

So if you're thinking of running your own business you will have the capability to produce and understand your own set of accounts.

Course content

Introduction to Financial Accounting

Introduction to accounting and bookkeeping theory and the creation of the main financial statements. During this unit you will develop skills in keeping accurate accounting records and will be able to record a variety of transactions, working from original documents and using the appropriate books of original entry.

Financial and Management Accounting

Further analysis of the financial statements and introduction to decision making using accounts. This unit provides you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of financial accounting will introduce you to some of the ways in which financial accounting can provide valuable information for measuring and monitoring business performance and for planning future business operations.

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs grade A* — C

Grade B — GCSE Maths & 1 other Grade B GCSE

Grade C English Language

GCSE Score of 5.3 or above


100% Exam

Future opportunities

Several of our students each year enter accountancy through a range of pathways usually beginning with the Association of Accounting Technicians before building up on the job experience and becoming chartered accountants. Others follow the more traditional route – studying at University for an accountancy related degree many of which include work experience at various accountancy firms.
