Biology A Level at Teignmouth Community School

Course description

The aim of this course are to encourage candidates to:
- develop their interest in and enthusiasm for biology, including developing an interest in further study and careers in biology
- appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
- develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works; and develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.

Course content

Under the new process, students will study six modules in total with 100% being examined and an additional element of practical assessment.

Entry requirements

Anyone gaining grade B or above in both Core & Additional Science GCSEs or grade B in Biology is eligible for the course. It is important to have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Mathematics at & English Language at grade 5)

Future opportunities

Biology A level is a popular subject and would be suitable for any student who is studying other courses in Chemistry A Level, Physics A Level, PE, Health & Social Care and Public Services. It is particularly useful for students who intend to study medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, science & sports degrees.
