General Studies A AS Level (AQA) at Ryburn Valley High School
There are no pre-qualifications for the course. EVERY post-16 student at Ryburn follows the General studies programme that includes modules on the arts and media, science issues, politics, religion and European awareness. In the Lower Sixth you will be guided in a choice of different examination courses (AS or GCSE) best to meet your needs. Most students are likely to take AS General Studies in Yr12. For exam entry we expect you to perform reasonably well in a January ‘mock.’At the end of the Lower Sixth, an AS grade (or where appropriate an extra GCSE)
This course involves many different topics from a range of subjects and could be taken to complement an AS and A2 GCE, which could lead to higher education in a range of subjects. This qualification can often play an important factor in securing a place in a higher education institution. You could go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will provide a good foundation for entry to employment as it provides you with the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
