Physical Education A Level at Exmouth Community College

Course description

This course is suited to students who have a genuine interest in sporting excellence and the science behind it. The two year course covers seven theoretical units per year and one personal sporting performance. Units include Psychology, Anatomy and Physiology, Socio Cultural issues, exercise physiology, biomechanics, technology of sport and skill acquisition.

Course content

The course is extremely demanding both practically and theoretically; therefore students MUST be competitively taking part in a sport / activity outside of College.

Entry requirements

A 5 grade in the GCSE PE theory paper, one strong practical score of nine or above along with a double 5 in science.  

There is also a requirement to be regularly taking part in your sport/activity and Post 16 enrichment sport.


Exam Board: AQA

The course is 70% theory and 30% practical over two years.

Future opportunities

Progression routes from the course include the armed forces, public services, physiotherapy, fitness instructor, sport and leisure management, PE teaching, sports science and coaching.
