Art and Design A Level at John Madejski Academy
The Art and Design A level course AQA (Fine Art) consists of:
Portfolio - Students should produce a collection of materials that shows at least one extended project. This should be from an initial starting point to a realisation.
Assignments - Students are required to select one question from an examination paper per year over the two years. Following the preparatory period, students must complete 10 hours of unaided, supervised time. In the 10 hours students must produce a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes, informed by their preparatory work.
Personal investigation - Students are required to conduct a practical and written investigation and must lead to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes. The investigation must be informed by an aspect of contemporary or past practice of artists, photographers, designers or craftspeople. Written material must be a coherent and logically structured extended response of between 1000 and 3000 words of continuous prose.
In Art, the emphasis is on the development of skills using an appropriate range of materials, processes and techniques. First and Foremost a keen interest in Art is crucial for the course. We would expect to see some evidence that students have already developed their Art Skills and Knowledge of Art History. A readiness to explore and experiment with a range of materials and concepts is essential. Students would also benefit from good organisational skills.
This qualification could prepare you for careers and further educational qualifications such as:
Art, Fine Art, Architect, Theatre & TV Design, Illustrator, Product Design, Advertising, Web Design, Game Design, Magazine Art Director.
