Whether it’s brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering or plumbing, our industry experienced tutors will support you in moving up the career ladder, no matter what level you start at.
The College has strong links with employers such as Willmott Dixon, and our tools are state of the art, thanks to generous donations from Stanley Black and Decker. Previous students have taken part in the HOPE Strategy project; where Rotherham College teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council and charity Action Housing to help renovate derelict houses into fully functioning, modern homes for vulnerable people. There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as the possibility for your work to be entered for the City and Guilds Gold Awards.
This course is ideally suited to learners who have completed the Plumbing Studies Diploma Level 1 and would like to start a career in plumbing. The Level 2 qualification will help you learn the trade and progress onto an NVQ when employment is gained.
What will I study?
•You will develop your skills in cold water systems, hot water systems, sanitation, central heating systems and drainage systems
•You will learn various plumbing techniques
•You will learn the installation of various pipework, materials and components
•You will learn to develop your practical skills and use of craft tools
•Functional Skills in maths and English (for those who have not achieved GCSE grades C or above in these subjects)
What added value will I receive?
•The Construction department, which includes plumbing, was awarded a grade one ‘Outstanding’ for its teaching and learning by Ofsted
•The plumbing workshops have been refurbished to a high standard ensuring learners’ needs are met while developing employability skills
You will be expected to have completed the Plumbing Studies Diploma Level 1 if you are new to the industry
Ongoing assessment via a combination of practical and multi choice knowledge tests.

•Successful completion of the course could lead to gaining employment within the plumbing industry and enrol on to a Plumbing NVQ Level 2 course
•For learners who do not gain employment, a Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing is available to further develop your skills
