Physics A level at Bradford College

Course description

In Year One, you will study the following:

Unit G481: Mechanics
Unit G482: Electrons, Waves and Photons
Unit G483: Practical Skills in Physics 1.

The interesting and challenging Units in Year Two are as follows:
Unit G484: The Newtonian World
Unit G485: Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics
Unit G486 Practical Skills in Physics 2.

Course content

Year One of the course will be taught over one year for five hours (two sessions) per week. There are three Compulsory Units.

Unit G481 is covered in the first term and examined in January. Unit G482 is covered between January and June and examined in June.

Practical skills for Unit G483 are developed during the year.

You will be required to carry out three practical tasks set by OCR and will be assessed on one task from each of the following categories: Qualitative, Quantitative & Evaluative.

Year Two of the course has a further three Modules, with exams in June.

You will be taught for five hours (two sessions) per week. G484 is covered in the first term. G485 is covered between January and June. Practical skills for G486 are developed during the year. You are required to carry out three practical tasks set by OCR.



Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade B or above including BB or above in GCSE Science + Additional Science (or GCSE Physics at Grade B) and GCSE Mathematics and English Language at Grade B.

If you have done GCSE Science + Additional Applied Science you should look at the AS in Applied Science (Double Award) course.

Assessment

  • Each Unit is assessed via a written examination.
  • Unit examinations are taken twice a year in January and May/June.
  • The unit `Practical Skills in Physics 1` will be assessed at appropriate points within the academic year.
