Performing Arts Level 3 at Woking College

Course description

This course will give you an understanding of the range and diversity of the Performing Arts industry. You will learn about the jobs and organisations that make up the industry, how it is funded and how companies are supported and regulated. It aims to equip you with the knowledge and understanding of the wider business context for your chosen career route.

You will be given the opportunity to develop a community arts project from a given brief. You will consider your creative skills and preferences and think about how these can be utilised in a way that benefits a community or a defined group of participants. You will develop knowledge and understanding of administration and planning, as well as the appropriate creative skills and techniques applicable to a project, learning how to monitor development and pilot practical elements in a way that will support the potential project and put contingency in place. In the second year you extend your performance practice further through a range of units and performance opportunities.

Course content

BTEC Extended Certificate

  • Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners' Work
  • Unit 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance
  • Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop

Please note that the optional units are yet to be decided for this qualification. They are catered to the direction you want to pursue, and can include various Drama and/or Dance topics.

Entry requirements

Five A*- C grades (or equivalent 4+)

Grade C or above in Drama or previous performance experience is desirable but not essential


Coursework = 100%

Future opportunities

The course can lead to a range of degree courses, including Drama, Performing Arts, Physical theatre, Applied Drama and Theatre.
