Travel and tourism - City and Guilds Diploma in Aviation Operations level 3 at Kirklees College, Huddersfield Centre

Course description

If you want to progress into the Aviation industry
or you want to study a second year of level
3 qualifications before progressing to higher
education, this course is for you. It will give
you a detailed insight into the aviation industry
and the skills you need to find a job.
 
With great links to industry, the college can offer
you guaranteed/mock interviews with a range
of companies, as well as outstanding guest
speaker visits and some interesting visits to
airlines and airports.

Course content

You will study the following units:
• Health and safety in the aviation industry,
• Security in the aviation industry,
• Flight operations,
• Handling air passengers,
• Aviation meteorology for ground staff,
• The principles of flight,
• Developing and improving the customer
service process,
• Team leadership.
 
Alongside these programmes you will have a
weekly tutorial with your course tutor who will
work with you to ensure you are as successful
as possible and track your progress.
You will have the opportunity to go on a
residential visit and also visit a number of
airports throughout the year. Trip fees are
charged for trips and visits.
 
Financial support may be available from college
depending on your personal circumstances –
further information will be available at interview.
 
This qualification is awarded by City and
Guilds and was developed in conjunction
with employers to provide a modern and
updated view of the aviation industry. When
you complete it you can leave knowing that
you have skills which potential employers are
looking for.
 
The course will run until Easter to fit in with
the industry recruitment process and give
you the best opportunity to seek permanent
employment or summer season work.

Entry requirements

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs with the following grades: English 3 and maths at 2 or above, and 2 other GCSEs grade 3 or above. You must be 17+ to start this course.
 

Assessment

With written work, presentations, online multiple
choice exams and practical assessment in the
college’s aircraft cabin.

Financial information

As a full time student you should not need to pay any course or examination fees (under 19).

There may be a cost for equipment, educational visits, printing etc.

What’s next?
Progress on to higher education or a Diploma in
Travel and Tourism level 3, if you haven’t already
completed this programme. Alternatively you
could progress to employment through a
guaranteed interview with our official partner,
Skypeople.
 
Career prospects
You could progress on to employment as air
cabin crew or passenger service agent
