Course description

Do you enjoy taking part in sport? Do you want to study Sport at Level 3 in the future? Would you benefit from the opportunity to improve your GCSE profile? This is a vocational programme which means that it is tailored towards students who are aiming for a career in a sport-related field or those who wish to progress to level 3 study in the future. It is coursework-based, so there are no exams and your coursework is marked as you go along so you always know what level you are working at.

Course content

This is a one year course and is split into units of study. Some units such as Anatomy & Physiology and Psychology for Sports Performance will require you to produce written assignments to demonstrate your knowledge, but you will also complete a unit of Practical Sport which is based entirely around your practical performance in a range of sports. The other units you will study will contain a mixture of written and practical assignments.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSE passes at grade D or above in a range of subjects including maths and/or English Language. At least one grade D must be in English Language and/or maths.

It is not necessary to have studied PE at GCSE.

Financial information

The department offers a range of enrichment opportunities, including trips to the Chill Factore and Ski Trips to the USA; a range of guest speakers to stimulate learning and access to college sports teams and academies that play in a range of leagues to accommodate different levels of ability.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of a level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Sport, you may choose to progress to employment in a sport-related occupation or you may choose to progress to study a Level 3 BTEC.
