Media Studies AS/A-Level at Haydon School

Course description

The course introduces students to Media through a mixture of theoretical study and practical work.

Course content

AS LEVEL

Coursework (25%) Unit G321

Students will produce a piece of practical work consisting of a new Music Magazine. All work relating to the construction of this magazine will be presented as an online blog using a range of multimedia presentation techniques.

Exam Unit (25%) G322

Students will be required to analyse a moving image text (TV Drama) as well as a question based on the study of the film industry. Students will be required to understand how the film industry operates and will need to consider a range of both Hollywood and Independent films.

A2 LEVEL

Coursework (25%) Unit G324

Students will produce one main, and two supporting pieces of practical work using a range of media. Typically this will include a Music Video, TV Advert, Film Trailer, Short Film or Animation.

Exam Unit (25%) G325

In section A of this paper, students answer two questions analysing and evaluating their coursework. In section B they will answer one question based on ‘Contemporary Media Issues’.
