Psychology A level at Wolfreton School

Course description

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and experience. Psychologists investigate both the behaviour and the mental process of the individual. The units studied are:

  • Research Methods - Planning, conducting, analysing and reporting psychological research across a range of experimental and non-experimental methodologies and techniques
  • Psychology Themes Through Core Studies - Introduces some of the central areas of investigation in psychology organised in key themes. Each key theme is represented by a classic and a contemporary core study.
  • Applied Psychology - Issues in mental health, criminal psychology and child psychology.

A crucial part of psychology is the need for active student participation. Psychology is an interactive, investigative subject which will require your contribution. There will be many opportunities for discussion during lessons. A wide variety of sources of information will be explored, including videos, newspaper and journal articles, and the Internet.

100% Exam.

Future opportunities

Careers in clinical, educational, environmental, forensic, occupational or sports psychology.

      The Consortium is a collaborative Sixth Form partnership between three distinct East Riding Schools; Cottingham High School, Hessle High School and Wolfreton School. Our partnership started over twenty five years ago and has developed and grown into a strong, vibrant and successful offer for students to experience; something that we are extremely proud of!

      As The Consortium we work closely together, continually developing an exciting and varied range of courses that combines both new, vocational opportunities with the more traditional, long established subjects. This wide ranging offer enables our students to realise their ambitions; fulfilling their individual needs.

      The Consortium is friendly and welcoming. As a student with us you will experience new and different environments making it an ideal opportunity to make new friends. You will be treated as an individual and provided with all the support needed to help you achieve your aspirations. The quality of teaching delivered across The Consortium is of a very high standard and you can gain extra skills from our enrichment programme which also provide some light hearted fun!
