Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) Apprenticeship Level 3 at Warwickshire College Group

Course description

The CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.  This is a 2 year apprenticeship.  College attendance for 1 evening over 24 week period.

Learners should be able to work on their own and/or be in a supervisory role within a nursery/early learning and childcare setting, providing care for young children.

Please note - you can commence your Advanced Apprenticeship at any time of the year.  The College run a "roll on-roll off" programme. 

Course content

The Advanced Apprenticeship framework consists of the following:

  • Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)
  • Functional Skills qualification in English, at level 2
  • Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics, at level 2
  • Functional Skills qualification ICT at Level 2
  • Award in Employment Responsibilites and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People's Settings
  • NB.  In order to practice as a Level 3 Early Years Educator - GCSE English & Maths A-C - must be achieved before completion of your apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

A level 2 qualification in childcare or equivalent experience is desirable.

Literacy and numeracy screening will be undertaken prior to the commencement of the course.

Learners need to be employed as an apprentice at an Early Years setting.

NB. Please note - In order to be a qualified Level 3 Childcare practitioner you will need to have GCSE A-C in English & Maths on completion of your programme.  If you do not currently have these grades, then you will need to complete your apprenticeship over 3 years. 

Assessment

There are two main components to assessment of the Diploma - the knowledge part is assessed through written work and competence assessment is done through workplace observations by an assessor.

Functional Skills are assessed through external exams

ERR is assessed through completion of a workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are embedded within the main qualifications but need to be evidenced.

Future opportunities

Achievement will enable apprentices to access higher level jobs within the sector, e.g. nursery supervisor, nursery manager, pre-school manager/co-ordinator, etc.  There is also the opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels particularly working towards foundation degrees in early years.
