Performing Engineering Operations (Pipefitting) - Level 2 at Middlesbrough College
This course will involve a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions to establish underpinning knowledge and understanding in the conduct of pipefitting activities and will cover cutting, preparing, bending and forming pipework, assembling pipes, safe working practices and communicating technical information. The qualifications you will be studying through the year are, the City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations and the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (Pipefitting) At the end of this course you will have demonstrated your competence in a pipefitting environment and built up a portfolio of evidence.
NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations- Unit 001 – Working Safely in an Engineering Environment Unit 002 –Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively Unit 003 – Using and communicating technical information Unit 007 Forming and assembling pipework systems Unit 027 preparing and using MMA equipment Unit 029 Preparing and using manual MIG, MAG and other continuous wire welding equipment Diploma in Engineering- Unit 201 working in engineering Unit 202 engineering principles Unit 212 principles of fabrication and welding technology Unit 213 welding by MMA process Unit 214 welding by MIG process Unit 219 fabricating pipework assemblies As part of your learning programme you will also attend the following session: Maths (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in Maths) English (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English Language) Study Skills 1:1 Tutorials Enrichment activities
To gain entry to this course you must possess 4 GCSE at grade D or above including Maths, English Language & Science or Level 1 Welding. Progressing learners must also have a Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths. You must also undertake a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
Assessment will be on-going in the workshop throughout the year for all practical activities. There is a Gola Health and Safety multi-choice exam. Three written exams including, interpret information and mark out pipework materials, preparation, fabrication and joining of pipework assemblies and fabrication, installation and dismantling of pipework systems.

You will have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Pipefitting programme or gain employment as a Level 3 Apprentice in the field of Pipefitting.
