Art - Textiles BTEC level 3 at Eastbrook Comprehensive School

Course description

BTEC Textiles offers an innovative approach to textiles and involves both traditional and experimental approaches to textile Design techniques.  We are involved in exploring new technologies within contemporary practice and strive to equip you with essential practical, written and verbal skills to effectively communicate your ideas through creative practice. Creativity and experimentation is fundamental to the course and will be the starting point for all projects.  In textiles you will learn and experiment with a variety of techniques such as drawing, appliqué, fabric manipulation, heat transfer, printmaking, screen printing, dying and felt making to develop ideas and final outcomes.  

Entry requirements

C or above at GCSE in Art and Design or Design Technology Textiles or a Pass or above at Level 2 BTEC Art and Design.  

You will need to be prepared to spend a significant amount of time working independently to ensure that you complete the required amount of work for your portfolio. Patience and determination as well as imagination and creativity will be advantageous to students on this course. 


You will complete 3 coursework projects in Year 12 and 2 coursework projects in year 13, which will cover a series of core and specialist units.  Assessment is carried out in according to unit specifications which includes well-presented practical work supported by written annotations and/or oral presentations. 

Future opportunities

All BTEC  Courses provide excellent opportunities for progression in to Higher Education with students going on to study at the London College of Fashion and London College of Communication.
