Sport/PE - BTEC First Certificate at St Columba's Catholic Boys' School

Course description

There are three separate courses available as Options. These are for boys with interest and proficiency in sport. All levels of ability considered. Commitment and hard work more important than ability. Large amount of coursework required. 1. BTEC Diploma (two Options) 2. BTEC Certificate (one Option) 3. GCSE Physical Education (one Option) BTEC First Certificate / Areas of Study Two Core Units of Study • The Body in Sport • Health, Safety and Injury in Sport Then Two Units of Study from the following: • Preparation for Sport • Planning and Leading Sports Activities • Practical Sport ASSESSMENT • All units are internally assessed and verified and then verified externally. • BTEC Grades are equivalent to the following: Pass - CB Merit - BA Distinction - A*A Why Study for a BTEC? • the course prepares young people for careers in the sports or outdoors sector • motivates learning through applied learning and assessment • BTEC qualifications are recognised by employers and education institutions • The course provides good progression routes to more advanced qualifications e.g BTEC Nationals, A Levels & Degrees • Give students experience of life skills important to employers such as: • Working as a group • Self development • Planning skills • Evaluating skills • Meeting targets • Experience of leading others • Knowledge of fitness and sport • Ability to maintain healthy levels of fitness
