Further Mathematics at The Blandford School
Studying Further Mathematics gives people the opportunity to delve deeper into pure mathematics and gain an understanding of some of the more fundamental concepts of modern mathematics. As well as being interesting in its own right, Further Mathematics is a subject which is widely accepted as a good qualification and it is particularly useful for students wishing to read Mathematics, Engineering and Physical Sciences at University; as it gives the students a head start in the first year of their degree course.
What you will study: Complex numbers, linear algebra, reciprocal graphs, hyperbolic functions, polar coordinates. These are just a few of the exciting, new topics that you only see in either further mathematics or in the first year of an undergraduate mathematics course. Students following this course will also be studying Mathematics at A level and hence will be aiming for a double Mathematics A level qualification, although some students may choose to do an AS in Further Mathematics in either Year 12 or Year 13. Further Mathematics How you will work: The lessons are fairly intensive but the assignments may consist of mathematical problems, activities or reading to help you gain a full understanding of the material we cover.
A* in GCSE Maths, although you may be accepted with a strong A grade.
