Hairdressing (Travel 2 Learn) at County Training - Shropshire Council

Course description

You will attend our training salon in Wellington, where you will learn about working in the hairdressing industry. This will include learning some hairdressing techniques, such as styling hair, shampooing and client consultation. You will also learn the principles of colouring and dressing hair.


This course is delivered within a commercial salon. You will be provided with a uniform and be expected to behave professionally, as you will be in the salon with members of the public. You will be fully supervised by our tutors when in the salon. The course will give a good introduction to hairdressing.

Depending on your Key Stage 3 achievements and your interview:

  • City & Guilds Level 1 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (QCF) (QAN 500/9285/6)
  • or
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Hair Services (QCF) 500/8694/7



Entry requirements

Successful interview

A genuine interest in working in hairdressing

Good tutor/school report

Good communication and able to work with others

85% attendance


  • portfolio of evidence
  • practical assessment
  • on-line knowledge tests.

Future opportunities

This course will provide you with a basic

understanding of the hairdressing industry, so can lead to either an apprenticeship, full time college courses or employment with training.
