Public Services Diploma/Extended Diploma Level 3 at New College Stamford

Course description

This course is designed to give you a comprehensive insight in to a career in Uniformed Public Services such as the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Police and Ambulance Service. You will take part in a programme of outdoor activities to develop your technical and transferable skills, leadership, communication, confidence, resilience, reliability, adaptability and teamwork to enable you to be successful in your application to a Public Service area of your choice. The course will also require you to undertake work experience and volunteering units. Progression to year two is based on successful completion of year one.Throughout the year you will take part in activities and visits by a range of guest speakers in Uniformed Public Services such as:The Prison ServicePoliceRoyal Air ForceRoyal NavyRoyal MarinesBritish ArmyFire ServiceThere will be opportunities to volunteer and enhance your CV through community based projects in the local area.This course is approximately 80% theory and 20% practical.

Course content

You will learn through a variety of methods including lecture based theory sessions, practical classroom activities, simulated exercises and fitness and gym sessions, guest speakers and external visits.You will get the opportunity to attend work placements secured in the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines, with visits and days out to Royal Air Force bases and Peterborough Court. You will also be expect find your own 1 week work experience placement or take part in public service opportunities such as Look at Life courses run by the Armed Services.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above , including English and maths at grades C/4 or a a Merit in Public ServicesDiploma Level 2.

Assessment

There are no exams for this course. You will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and practical tasks.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress to University to study degrees in Policing, Law, Criminology, Politics, War and Terrorism Studies or in to a range of careers in the Uniformed Public Services.

Further information

You will require a uniform for this course expected to wear this for lessons and external visits. There is a course fee associated with the course to allow us to run the trips and visits. This is currently approximately £80 but may be subject to change.
