Course description

Course Overview

Maths is all around us! Maths is for everyone! You will always use Maths in your future career whether you want to be a footballer, a hairdresser, a film-editor or a journalist. In fact, Maths is used by everyone every day and so, if you don’t fancy A-Level Maths then Core Maths is the course for you!

Core Maths is a brand-new qualification that builds on your GCSE knowledge and allows you to explore “real-life” Maths. You will develop a wide range of skills that will support you in your other subject choices at Post-16 and help you to achieve your future goals.

Skills Needed

To succeed on this course you need to be interested in understanding the world around you. You need to be able to collaborate, communicate (both in a written way and verbally) and be determined. This course will complement any other subject you have chosen.

Course content

One Year Course Component:

Unit 1: Analysis of Data, Personal Finance, Estimation

Unit 2: Normal Distribution, Probabilities, Correlation and Regression

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths.

Assessment

One Year

2 papers to be sat at the end of the year:

Paper 1 - based on component 1 topics, 1hr 30mins, 60 marks, calculator allowed.

Paper 2 - based on component 2 topics, 1hr 30 mins, 60 marks, calculator allowed.

The marks within each paper vary from 2 marks to 8 marks. Some questions require explanation and assumptions that need to be written down.
