Childcare Level 2 Apprenticeship at Seevic College

Course description

Work with children, under supervision, in settings like nurseries or in the local community.

Working with children and young people is a fulfilling career that allows you to make a positive difference to their wellbeing and development. 

Kick-start your career in this rewarding field with our one-year Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Throughout the course, you'll learn about safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, supporting children and young people's positive behaviour and paediatric emergency first aid.

Course content

  • Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People’s Settings
  • Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
  • Child and Young Person Development
  • Contribute to the Support of Child and Young Person Development
  • Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
  • Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
  • Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour
  • Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People
  • Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People
  • Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People's Settings.

Entry requirements

General requirements 

Grade C/4 or above in either GCSE English Language, English Literature or Maths. If your English is a D/3, your Maths must be at least a C/4 and vice versa.

If you do not have the required grades in one of the mentioned subjects, you may be able to take them at Functional Skills level alongside your Apprenticeship.

Special requirements 

Working towards Level 2 ICT.

Assessment

You'll attend college one day per week and be assessed in the workplace by your portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

You could progress to an advanced level Apprenticeship or full-time employment in the industry. Potential roles could include being an Early Years Assistant, Care Worker or Assistant Youth and Community Worker.

Further information

At Seevic, we offer two progression routes from this qualification - one for those wanting to work within the Early Years sector (Early Years Practitioner) and one for those wanting to work in a school environment (Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools).

We've also incorporated GCSE English and Maths into the course for those wishing to complete the EYP route.
