Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF) CACHE Level 2 Certificate at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The CACHE Level 2 Certificate in introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF). It provides learners with knowledge of children from birth to 5 years and practical experience working with children from birth to 5 years. Preparing you to progress to the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education or the level 3 Award in Childcare and Education (stepping up to L3). This course prepares you for progression into employment, apprenticeship or level three in childcare. You are required to complete 250 hours of work placement in a childcare setting. You will also complete practical sessions in the colleges Child Care training suite.

Course content

Theme 1: Introducing the role of the early years Theme 2: Legislation, framework and professional practice Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness Theme 4: Professional development Optional units: support healthy lifestyles and support children with additional needs

Entry requirements

You should be at least 16 years old. CACHE does not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


This programme is assessed through a number of methods including written assignments, presentations, case studies and professional discussion. Part of the assessment is also completed within a childcare completing their placement books

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course (including maths and English) you can gain entry to a level 3 course in childcare that will allow you to progress to employment or higher education.
