Sport BTEC Level 3 at Ormiston Park Academy
This course is designed to develop your existing knowledge and interest in the world of sport whilst preparing you for a specific route into a chosen career or university course. You will gain an academic and practical insight into many of the areas in the sporting industry, providing you with the information to make a choice about what is the next step for you.
Throughout your studies you will explore and develop understanding of particles, quantum phenomena and electricity, communication and energy. You will investigate how natural science plays a vital part in the functioning of our world and beyond, how science works in practice, how the laboratory is not the only place science can take place, and enable you to plan and manipulate data through a practical investigation.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. There are no specific entry criteria for this qualification, although possessing a GCSE in PE or one of the Sciences would be advantageous. All students are expected to be full-time students.
You will be taught in a theoretical and practical setting and assessed via practical investigations and written exam papers.
Your successes in this subject can lead to degree courses at university that are specific such physiotherapy, teaching, sports therapy or nutrition. You can also gain entry onto wider courses at university such as sports science and sports studies. BTEC sport will provide you with great foundations to access a higher level apprenticeship in a particular area of the sports industry, and careers such as sports coaching, health and fitness instructors, athlete development or sports development officer.
Opportunities lie to support the PE & Sport department in the Academy working with students in Years 7-11. OPA works with our feeder primary schools to offer physical activity lessons, which you could assist in planning and leading. OPA6 will assist you in arranging for a work placement position within local businesses.
