Hair and Media Make-Up City and Guilds Level 3 at Sandhurst School

Course description

This course will enable students to develop Hair and Beauty skills across a variety of sectors that meet the needs of today’s workplace, it will help to develop their talents and abilities for future career progression. This qualification is widely recognised and respected by employers.

If you would like to style models for photo shoots or perhaps work as a makeup artist for film or TV, this qualification is an ideal way to build your skills. You will get creative with hair and make-up and can even choose options in studio photography.

Course content

You will learn through practical sessions, group discussions and assignments. You will be using professional salon equipment to develop your skills. You will be assessed by using assignments, practical tasks, exams or online tests. This is a 2 Year course and offers 1 ½ A levels when all 10 Units have been completed.

Mandatory Units include:

  • Working with colleagues within the beauty related industries
  • Creative hairdressing design skills
  • Design and apply face and body art
  • Fashion and photographic make-up
  • Apply airbrush make-up to the face
  • Camouflage make-up

Optional units include:

  • Apply make-up
  • The art of colouring hair
  • Media make-up
  • Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
  • Studio photography

Entry requirements

Pathway two entry requirements. Students will preferably have studied Level 2 Principal Learning in Hair and Beauty Studies with at least a grade C or equivalent. However, entry to the course is also available to students who have a keen interest in the subject.

Future opportunities

Students gain the skills they need to succeed in the world of work., such as Beauty Therapy, Make-Up Artist, Hairdresser or Nail Technician in a Salon or Spa.

You will develop essential skills in customer service, health and safety and will learn to work well in the Salon environment. Perhaps even to gain specialist skills to move into a management role.
