Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at The Heath School

Course description

The programme of study is designed to provide a balance across a range of drama activities. It combines the activities of exploring plays, the performance of published plays, the evaluation of theatre and the critical analysis of all the drama studied, created and performed.
 

Course content

Year 1 Component 1: Exploration and Performance Component 2: Theatre Makers in practice Year 2 Component 1: Devising Component 2: Text In Performance Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice.
 

Assessment

Year 1 Component 1: Internally assess group performance and monologue/duologue performance. There is also a 2500 word portfolio. The three aspects are assessed and this is worth 6096 of qualification. Component 2: Externally assessed written examination 1 hour 45 minutes and is worth 40% of qualification. Year 2 Component 1: Internally assessed group performance with portfolio to support, collectively worth 40% of qualification. Component 2: Externally examined performance worth 20% of qualification Component 3: Externally assessed written examination, 2 hours 30 minutes and is worth 40% of qualification.
 

Future opportunities

Students may go on to study Drama, Performing Arts or Drama School Training. Those who have a career interest in acting, theatre, media, scriplwriting, editing, directing, speech therapy, drama therapy and teaching would find the course very useful.
