Performance for Stage and Screen Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This is a unique vocational course for students aspiring to a career the in Performing Arts. The course is designed and taught to industry level as a working production company, giving learners first-hand experience of what life is like working in the industry.

Course content

The course covers a wide range of disciplines within the performing arts but key to this is building on the core skills: voice, body, acting and creative interpretation.

Learners will study;

  • The distinction between screen and live performance
  • Key performance methodologies and practitioners
  • Storytelling
  • Development of voice and singing
  • Understanding your body through dance & movement
  • Professional preparation for the industry
  • Production technique
  • Devising & directing
  • Audition techniques
  • Publicity and marketing for the modern actor.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above. Learners aged over 19 without formal qualifications are welcome to apply.


Through a range of practical workshops and performance-based projects accompanied by demonstrations and guidance from your tutors. Learners are given opportunities to perform for the public throughout the year in projects for both stage and screen as well as attending trips to the theatre. Independent research and study is essential in your development and the course work is entirely student- led, requiring you to think creatively with boldness and aspiration.

Future opportunities

If you would like to continue your studies, you can progress onto a range of higher education courses including degrees and HNDs.

There are many employment opportunities in the performing arts industry, such as actor, singer, dancer, stage management, technical aspects of production and others. Many of the skills developed on this course are transferable and relevant in a wide variety of employment fields should you choose not to pursue a career in the performing arts industry.
