Course description

Retail covers a wide variety of businesses from independent shops to national chains and large superstores.

Course content

Apprentice – Level 2
Typical job roles at this level include: Sales assistants, Sales consultants, Stockroom assistants, Customer service assistants. You will undertake a range of units which make up the professional qualification at level 2 which could include: Team working, Customer Service, Health and Safety, Promoting sales, processing payments, giving information and advice.

Advanced Apprentice – Level 3
At this level you will be taking more responsibility in the workplace and will be supervising others. Again you will undertake a range of units which make up the professional qualification at Level 3 which may include those stated above.

Entry requirements

Apprentice Level 2: A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A - E, an NVQ Level 1, Diploma Level 1 or equivalent qualification.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3: An NVQ 2 or other equivalent qualification.

Assessment

The apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Maths and English are assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.

An Apprenticeship framework is made up of practical work based training (with your employer), training to support the theory and knowledge of your vocational area and general skill qualifications in maths, English and IT. You will also learn about employee rights and responsibilities, personal, learning and thinking skills and depending on which area of training you undertake, some of this learning may take place in college.

Financial information

There are no specific extra costs, just stationery for study.

Future opportunities

Once the Apprenticeship has finished there is the opportunity to carry on working, maybe get promoted or if appropriate, progress onto advanced level apprenticeships. In some instances you can go on to higher education in a college or university.
