Course description

Programme Aim:

In this course the students are given the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the politics of the United Kingdom including its local, national and European Union dimension and compared to some aspects of other political systems. It aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of political facts, terms and concepts.
  • Communicate effectively, in an ordered and coherent way.
  • develop an interest in, and an enthusiasm for, the study of Government and Politics, which would form a sound basis for further study.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE passes at A* - C

At least a Grade B in English Literature


Unit 1: People and Politics 50% AS Exam 1 hour 20 mins

Unit 2: Governing the UK 50% AS Exam 1 hour 20 mins

Assessment A2

Unit 3b: Key Themes in Political Analysis– Introducing Political Ideologies 50% A2 Exam 1 hour 30 mins

Unit 4b: Extended Themes in Political Analysis—Other Ideological Traditions 50% A2 Exam 1 hour 30 mins

Future opportunities

The course supports progression from Level 2studies and acts as a bridge to further study at college or university thereby contributing to lifelong learning. It is a qualification that supports further study in humanities subjects such as history and law.
