Psychology AS & A2 Level (AQA) at Crossley Heath School
Psychology offers a fantastic opportunity to explore a completely new an exciting subject.
Psychology is one of the most popular A-level courses, both in the school and across the country, taught by dedicated and innovative staff who work hard to ensure that students are both supported and challenged in all their lessons.
At AS students will explore how the memory works and apply this to real life cases. They also look at a range of studies and how they relate to topics such as abnormality, stress, attachments and conformity. Students will be able to carry out their own studies in school and a trip to the zoo will allow a range of behaviours to be observed and analysed.
At A2 students get to deepen their understanding of topics including aggression, sleep, eating behaviours and schizophrenia. Students will also get the chance to discover the motivation behind addictive behaviours and look at effective treatment methods. This is further explored in an overnight trip to London where students will engage in workshops involving hypnosis and delve into the world of serial killers with and exciting Jack the Ripper walking tour. Throughout the two years students build upon a range of transferable skills including the ability to critically evaluate and apply theories to novel situations. They gain insight into the world through range pf perspectives which gives them a better understanding of the human mind. There is also a chance to go to New York during February half-term to study cultural variations and aggression.
Assessment from 2015-2016 will be linear. The course is exam based with four exams at the end of the two year course (with the option to sit AS exams at the end of the first year if students are discontinuing with the subject).
