Design and Technology - Resistant Materials AS and A Level *Fees Payable* at Cheltenham College
Design Technology offers a wide range of specialisms, which allow all pupils enormous scope for their imagination and insight. The department gains some of the top grades in the school and pupils have the opportunity to develop innovative products using an excellent range of both modern and traditional tools and machinery.
Our facilities are growing continually. We keep a close eye on industrial developments relevant to our curriculum areas and invest in new technology whenever possible to access modern techniques. This has led to computers not only being used as for presentation work, but also 2D and 3D design work and control manufacturing tools. The department boasts a range of CNC equipment that it utilised in all disciplines.
A Level courses can be taken in Resistant Material and Textiles and continue to develop to match the needs of any promising young designer or engineer.
At A Level, we follow the Edexcel suite.
The Product Design syllabus enables pupils to develop their creativity, presentation and practical skills, to apply knowledge and understanding of technological activities and to develop critical thinking and collaborative skills. Pupils will be expected to contribute in a much more active role than at GCSE. They will be given guidance but ultimately must be self-motivated and determined to succeed at the highest level.
Please ensure that you understand that course fees will be payable before submitting your application.
Outside of the department, groups have completed courses at the Design Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum and The Science Museum, as well as having professional designers visit us. Links with industry are also important and a number of trips have taken place to see first hand how products are designed and manufactured for mass markets.
