Wider Core: Volunteering at Rawlins Academy

Course description

Students choose a regular voluntary activity from a range of options internally, or externally, or may select their own volunteering activity. This should equate to at least one hour a week on average. Some of the activities on offer include the Primary Reading programme, classroom support, charity work and working with community groups and various House leadership roles. These activities can be personalised so that students can enhance their CVs and profiles in preparation for progression at the end of Post 16 studies.

Entry requirements

Rawlins Level 3 P16 entry requirements

Assessment

Not applicable. Students maintain a regular blog/record of their activities.

Future opportunities

Students may wish, in some cases, to select volunteering activities which have a vocational link to their intended career path or Higher Education course; for example, teaching, medicine, 'the care services', etc. In some cases there is an expectation that a student will have had practical vocational experience, and volunteering provides such an opportunity.
