Course description

GCE in Applied ICT aims to produce effective, discerning ICT users.

Course content

  • You will learn how to select and use appropriate ICT tools and techniques to help you carry out investigations, capture and handle data, solve problems, make decisions and present and communicate information.
  • You will become aware of the benefits and drawbacks of ICT and its impact on the way people live their lives.
  • You will learn how to plan and manage projects and work effectively with others.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C or above in: ICT, English, Science or Maths

Assessment

3 units from AS

2 further mandatory units:

  • Using Database Software - externally assessed examination
  • Managing ICT projects - internally assessed coursework; plus 1 optional unit - internally assessed coursework

Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move into higher or further education or a career pathway. IT is now in almost every part of modern life, 21 million people use IT at work every day. Students who complete the qualification will join the 1.1 million IT professionals in the UK today. Approximately half work in IT companies and half work in other industries [manufacturing, finance and banking, public sector, transport, storage and communications being the largest employers]
