Sociology A Level at WQE

Course description

The specification offers two modules in the first year which enable students to critically assess the role of society and the individual in a variety of topic areas including families and households, and education. In addition students will study sociological theories and methods and their application to everyday life.

In the second year students will build on the work covered in the first year and also study the sociology of religion and the topic of crime and deviance that will make reference to the other areas of the course.

Assessment

The A-level consists of three exams taken at the end of the second year which will combine elements of your learning from the full two-year course. There is no assessment by coursework.

Future opportunities

Sociology provides students with critical skills that are useful in a wide range of careers, especially in a knowledge-based society undergoing the most dramatic changes experienced since the Industrial Revolution. A Sociology degree can be used for most management careers and the media as well as in the more obvious career areas such as social work.
