Engineering Level 2 Certificate at North Lindsey College

Course description

This course aims to provide students with an introduction to engineering. The course has been developed to support career progression into electrical installation or engineering through a range of practical and theory activities. The course will include practical activities using electrical wiring of circuits or mechanical skills and will develop the skills necessary to support careers within engineering. 

Course content

The City & Guilds Certificate in Engineering has 2 mandatory and 3 optional units.

- Mandatory Units:
- Working in Engineering
- Engineering Technology

Optional Units (mechanical):
- Turning
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics
- Maintenance
- Optional Units (electrical)
- Electrical Installation
- Electronic Devises

Mechanical and Electrical students enhance their practical ability by taking additional Performing Engineering Operations units in appropriate disciplines.

Entry requirements

Applications will need four GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Maths) or a suitable level 1 qualification in Engineering.


All units are assessed either by portfolio evidence and coursework. There will be external on-line examinations in some subjects.

Future opportunities

Level 2 Certificate in Engineering is an excellent lead into a range of Level 3 courses in engineering which can lead to careers in the following areas: Industrial or Product Design, Production Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or Maintenance Engineering. The qualification can also lead to an apprenticeship or employment as a semi-skilled operative.
