French A Level at Don Valley School and Performing Arts College

Course description

  • In Year 12 Modules pollution mass media. Media, Popular Culture. Healthy Living and Family/ Relationships.
  • In Year 13 Modules on ‘Contemporary special issues’. The Multicultural Society, the Environment.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or better. No more than two applied courses can count towards this total and each applied course counted has the equivalence of only one GCSE, regardless of its nominal size. In addition, students must achieve the specific entry requirements which may apply to this course.

Assessment

The AS course is assessed by 1 x 2 hour exam and an oral exam with the teacher. The A2 course is assessed by a 2½ hour exam, and an oral exam with the teacher.

Future opportunities

The course will provide a basis for studying French at degree level. It will enhance employment prospects and facilitate foreign travel.

An A level in any foreign language is recognised as a challenging and academic choice. It complements a wide range of subjects and opens up many opportunities both at the point of entry to higher education and in future career choices.
