Mathematics (Further) A-level at The Oakes College (Netherhall School)
The Further Maths course consists of Pure and Decision Maths. We run the course as an extra A-level in free periods and after school.
At the end of Year 12, students will sit an AS-level in Further Maths so that they have more options in Year 13. Students can then either decide to take the full A-level or just retain the AS-level.
The minimum requirement is 7 GCSE or equivalent passes at either grades 9-4 or grades A*-C in an appropriate range of subjects, including English at grade 4 or above.
The college will accept one BTEC at Merit level as one GCSE equivalent.
Further Maths – requires a GCSE grade 7 or above in Maths.
Two exams for the AS-level at the end of Year 12 are on Further Pure and one on Decision.
Two exams for the A-level at the end of Year 13 are on Further Pure and one on Decision.
You could take this course with an Advanced GCE in Mathematics to support entry to higher education in Mathematics related areas such as Electronics, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer or Financial Adviser. This course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and engineering sectors.
