IT Level 3 at The Bishop of Winchester Academy

Course description

IT Level 3 is an advanced level ICT course which involves the theoretical and practical study of both computer and ICT related topics. Students can enjoy studying a range of interesting topics and learn to use a variety of different software including the Adobe Software Suite, as well as traditional Microsoft Office and programming packages. Students will have the opportunity to study website production and computer animation, as well as learning about communication and employability.

Course content

Students will study two compulsory units:

Unit 1: Communication and employability skills for IT.

Unit 2: Information systems

Students will also choose to study additional units from a range, which will allow students to showcase their Graphics, Multimedia and Project Management skills, in addition to gaining a thorough understanding of how IT supports the objectives of the business environment.

Entry requirements

Students should meet the standard 6th Form entry requirements.  It is preferred that students have achieved a minimum of a GCSE grade B or a Merit at Level 2 BTEC in this or a related subject.


The course is assessed through a range of coursework assignments and practical exercises. Students can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.

Future opportunities

The IT Level 3 qualification is recognised by both higher education establishments and industry. The course is suitable for students who have a keen interest in following a career in the wide field of IT and Computing and who wish to go directly into employment after completing the qualification, as well as those who wish to embark on a degree course at university.
