Music Technology at Marlwood School
The course is intended to provide a choice for those wishing to extend their music education beyond GCSE. You will learn about and use a variety of music technology skills: MIDI sequencing and multi-track recording as well as arranging skills are all key components assessed through practical work. You must complete three tasks which together make the Music Technology Portfolio 1: a sequenced realised performance, a multi-track recording of a commercial song and a creative sequenced arrangement. You will learn to use a variety of hardware devices and music production software, including Logic Studio on Apple Macs. In addition to the practical work, you will study towards a listening and analysis exam (30%). This unit provides you with an opportunity to study the styles most common in popular music. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate this knowledge using aural discrimination skills.
It is not essential that you have Music GCSE; however, you must be able to prove a good sense of musicality and interest in this area.
