A Level Mathematics at Kingston College
By studying AS/A Level Mathematics you will develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes and also develop the ability to reason logically and recognise incorrect reason. This course will give you the skills to represent a situation mathematically, i.e. be able to model real-life situations. You will also develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, the world of work and to society in general. The course will also enable you to acquire the skills needed to use technology effectively in problem solving.
A Level Mathematics is a linear qualification with students taking the final exam after two years of study. A Level Mathematics is a combination of pure mathematics; statistics and mechanics. Topics studied include proof; algebra and functions; geometry; sequences; trigonometry; logarithms; differentiation; integration; numerical methods; vectors; data sampling; probability; kinematics and forces.

A Level entry criteria are a minimum of five GCSEs, at grades 9-5, all in academic subjects. These must include a minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE English and a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics. This qualification can only be studied alongside two other A Level subjects.
Level Mathematics is necessary for those wanting to take a degree in Mathematics or Engineering. Students also go on to study subjects such as Computing, Economics, Finance and Psychology.
