Mathematics A Level at Saint Benedict, A Catholic Voluntary Academy

Course description

In Year 12 students will study two core modules C1 and C2, and an applied module S1. Assessment for each module is by a 90 minute written exam worth 75 marks. Each module is equally weighted at 16.6%.

Students can cash in for an AS level in Mathematics at the end of year 12 with 3 modules, or continue until the end of year 13 for a full A level with 6 modules. Those continuing into Year 13 will study two further core modules, C3 and C4, and another applied module, either M1 or D1. Again, assessment for each module is by a 90 minute written exam worth 75 marks. Each module is equally weighted at 16.6%.

D1 is an especially useful foundation module for any student who will have to make quantitative decisions at some point during their career, it is useful for a career in computing.

M1 is suitable for students taking Physics or Technology.

Entry requirements

All Level 3 students must have 5 separate GCSE passes (A*-C), including English Language and Maths.  

Grade B GCSE in Maths.  You will be required to pass an induction assignment.  Further Maths cannot be taken without Maths.

Future opportunities

Mathematics is one of the core disciplines which underpins the skills required in many occupations.

A Mathematics qualification is desirable for careers in Science, Social Sciences, Engineering, Finance and Accounting, Medicine, Computer Programming, Market Research and Town and Country Planning.
