Course description

This intellectually demanding course will encourage you to: • understand the importance of examining knowledge and beliefs critically • recognise, analyse and evaluate your own and others’ beliefs and knowledge claims in a variety of contexts • recognise and evaluate assumptions • evaluate reasoning of different kinds, including common and important species of reasoning • make connections and synthesise information and arguments • generate your own arguments and express them clearly.

Entry requirements

A Grade in English, plus 7 other A Grades at GCSE

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Critical Thinking, which could lead onto higher education in areas of critical thinking, social sciences or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to critical thinking by working in areas of research, marketing, public relations, and human resources. You could go also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the basic skills, knowledge and understanding that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
