Accounting A Level at Holy Cross Sixth Form College
This course encourages students to develop a knowledge and understanding of the purpose of accounting and its essential role in business decision making. We have excellent links with large accountancy firms, such as KPMG and EY, and also accounting bodies ICAEW and ACCA. There will be numerous opportunities throughout the course to work with these organistations at different events, competitions and summer work placements.
The course deals with double entry all the way through to the financial statements for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Students will examine both financial and management accounting and their importance to strategy within a business. The accounting course is based heavily on numerical work and problem solving.
Accounting helps students develop a number of skills:

- Working on your own initiative
- Methodical and critical thinking
General college entry requirements. In addition, you will need at least GCSE grade B in Maths and grade C in GCSE English Language. You are also advised to look at the Financial Studies course which will suit those who are less comfortable with higher level Maths but more confident with written work.
Many accounting students develop such a passion for the subject that they continue onto university to study Accounting. There are several sandwich degree courses involving the major firms of accountants. These provide an excellent route into the profession as the student gains invaluable work experience alongside the academic input. Many accountancy firms also offer college leaver programmes designed for students who wish to start training straight after A Levels. It is possible to become a chartered accountant via this route, a valuable role in all types of businesses and organisations as well as for any potential entrepreneurs.
